Last night Education Post hosted a Facebook Q&A with education blogger
Chris a.k.a. Citizen Stewart on why the NAACP is wrong to propose a moratorium on public charter schools. We’ve
written a few posts over the past couple of weeks, but thought doing a Q&A live on Facebook would be valuable so more people could participate. And folks showed up with questions in hand. Here are a few from last night's conversation. To start off Education Post wanted to know, how do charter schools fit into the fight for quality education?
Sharif El-Mekki, Mastery Charter School principal in Philadelphia, wanted to know how can parents who are feeling ignored by the NAACP send a message?
Haneef Auguste asked the question many of us wanted to know.
Lamont Douglas, a New Orleans parent, commented on the NAACP's "johnny-come lateliness" and wanted to know where was the concern for African-American children before.
Vesia Hawkins, Tennessee mom and former educator, asked how and why are charter schools getting so much heat? Where'd it come from?
So, how do we shift the conversation so that people understand that chart schools are also not monolithic?
Chris Stewart ended the Q&A with a call to action.
